Based on Judith Byron Schachner's award-winning book of the same name and the true story that inspired it, "Yo, Vikings!" is the mini-saga of Emma Katz, a spunky and passionate little girl with a limitless imagination. After being assigned Erik the Red for her World Discovery Day report, she begins to channel her inner Viking, setting off on a fantastic adventure of self-discovery. At its core, the show is a tribute to the themes of community, perseverance, and the indomitable spirit of "the real adventure".
"Yo, Vikings!" was originally commissioned by Upper Darby Summer Stage for their 2010 season. The show was developed in the BMI Workshop, and selections from the show were featured in the 2010 BMI Winter Smoker and in concert at the Laurie Beechman Theatre. Upper Darby's world premiere production opened July 21, 2010, featuring a cast of 74 Philadelphia-area teenagers.
